Curator, The Arts Catalyst – London, UK
Hours: Part-time 2.5 days per week
Salary: £15,000 per annum (£30,000 pro rata)
Workplace: Central London

Introduction

The Arts Catalyst is one of the UK’s most distinctive visual and interdisciplinary arts organisations, distinguished by ambitious artists’ commissions that engage with the ideas and impact of science. Our work aims to be provocative, risk-taking, and to stimulate discourse around contemporary science and culture. In our 20 years, The Arts Catalyst has commissioned more than 120 artists’ projects, including major projects by Aleksandra Mir, Tomas Saraceno, The Otolith Group, Jan Fabre, Helen Chadwick, Carey Young, James Acord and Ashok Sukumaran. We produce exhibitions, events, performances and publications, in a range of sites and contexts, working collaboratively with arts, science and academic organisations in the UK and internationally.

The Arts Catalyst has a deep commitment to artists and artistic process, working with artists at pivotal stages in their careers and providing opportunities for them to develop bold projects in unusual contexts. Underpinning and complementing Arts Catalyst’s artistic programme is our research strand, which aims to extend the traditional boundaries of art, intersecting with science, technology, politics and other fields. As well, we run a programme of critical discussion events, talks and workshops, and participatory and education projects for a range of communities.
The Arts Catalyst is non-profit organisation. It is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

Purpose of the Job

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, creative curator to plan and deliver The Arts Catalyst’s artistic programme, working in close cooperation with the Director and within a small team. • Seek out and respond creatively to appropriate calls, competitions, and strategic funding opportunities
  • Develop and deliver exhibitions and other programme to highest standards and on budget, working closely with the Programme Manager and other colleagues
  • Promote the artistic programme at national and international levels and raise awareness of The Arts Catalyst within the London visual arts sector
  • Work with the Director to develop a fundraising strategy for the artistic programme, and help to research and approach potential funders
