Sound Acts [II]

Athens 5-8 May 2016

Call for Performances/Presentations

Deadline: 10 December, 2015

Sound acts is an annual get-together, a showcase of creative couplings between music/sound, performance art/gesture and gender/body/activism.

The first instalment of our event took place in Athens in April 2015, where we aimed to explore various points of conjunction of the above through both theoretical presentations and discussions, as well as musical (or amusical) performances, interventions and installations. The event’s purpose was twofold: on the one hand it was an opportunity for local underground artists to present their work in such a context for the first time in Athens and on the other to establish connections between greek practitioners/theoreticians and the international community.

We are delighted to announce a call for participations in our second event, which will take place in May 2016. We invite proposals for performances, lectures, performative lectures, workshops, installations and anything in between that relates music/sound to the following:

  • happenings, interactivity and situationism

  • post-performance

  • cyborgs and the relation between technology and the body

  • drag and critical cabaret

  • reappropriation of pop culture

  • self-referentiality and overidentification

  • anti-art and conceptualism

  • feminist and queer narratives

  • body art and post-pornography

  • abjectified bodies: politics of disability, fatness, gender nonconformity

  • spoken word and poetics

  • DIY, messthetics, dada and fluxus

  • networked identities and embodiment in the digital era

  • critical race narratives, whiteness, citizenship

Submission details:  Electronic submissions are preferred via email by the 10th of December. Abstracts (maximum 500 words) should be sent to soundactsathens@gmail.com including the following information: name/group, institution (when applicable) CV/Bio (max 100 words), format and technical needs. Online links of work and pictures are not necessary but would be useful. We will let you know if your submission is accepted by January the 5th 2016.
