Το workshop αυτό είναι ανοιχτό στους φοιτητές της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών.
Ο στόχος του workshop έιναι να αναπτυχθεί μια εγκατάσταση λειτουργική σε κατάσταση μηδενικής βαρύτητας πριν σταλθεί σε τροχιά γύρω από την γη, για να ελεχθεί in situ.
Τα project δορυφόρων έγιναν διάσημα τα τελευταία 5 χρόνια χάρις στις χαμηλές τιμές των kit εξοπλισμού. Τα project που έχουν δημιουργηθεί μέχρι σήμερα, με εξαίρεση ελάχιστα από αυτά, είχαν ωφελιμιστικό χαρακτήρα. Στον απόηχο του ψυχρού πολέμου και του νεο-αποικιακού πνεύματος το διάστημα θεωρείται το “νέο σύνορο”
Οι ρίζες αυτού του workshop βρίσκονται στα έργα και τα γραπτά των Kasemir Malevich, Paul Klebnikhov, Rene Daumal, Yve Klein, Pataphysics, και πιο κοντά σε εμάς, στο Meillasoux και στους AAA (Astronauts Autonomous Association), οι οποίοι στα τέλη του ΄90 επανέφεραν την ιδέα της εξερεύνησης των πάντων και την οργάνωση για φυγή στο διάστημα, ως το πιο σχετικό είδος δράσης για τον επαναπροσδιορισμό της ζωής σε όλους τους τομείς. Οι AAA ήταν ενάντια στην αναπαραγωγή των τρόπων ζωής που υπάρχουν στην γη, στο διάστημα. Ως εκ τούτου, ανάγκη για αυτό το project είναι να μην υπάρχει ωφελιμιστική πρόθεση, όπως είναι για παράδειγμα η παροχή ελεύθερεων συνδέσεων.
Θα πρέπει να πειραματιστούμε για να δουλέψουμε με το Zero-g state. Πρέπει να τεθεί η διάσταση κατά την οποία τα πάντα πρέπει να (επαν-)εφευρεθούν και να υπάρξουν νέες συνθήκες. Η πρόταση μου για αυτό το workshop είναι να φτιάξω ένα “τυφλό” project, όπως το σώμα ενός εντόμου. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι οι περισσότεροι αισθητήρες θα στραφούν στο εσωτερικό του σκάφους αντί για το γύρω περιβάλλον ώστε να συλλέξουν τα δεδομένα. Οι μόνες συσκευές που θα στραφούν προς τα έξω, θα είναι εκείνες που θα μας επιτρέπουν να επικοινωνούμε με τον δορυφόρο και να μεταφέρουμε τα δεδομένα που θα συλλέγουμε κατά την διάρκεια ζωής του. Είναι δηλαδή ένα μικρό δείγμα/πρότυπο των “κούφιων” πλανητών, που θα φιλοξενήσουν κάποια στιγμή ανθρώπινες κοινότητες στο διάστημα.
Η διάρκεια ζωής ενός αυτοσχέδιου δορυφόρου ποικίλει, ο μέσος όρος είναι από 6 εβδομάδες έως 3 μήνες. Η τροχιά σιγά σιγά φθίνει και ο δορυφορός διασπάται στην μεσόσφαιρα με αποτέλεσμα να μην προκαλεί ρύπανση. Το project μπορεί να αποτύχει εξαιτίας της πειραματικής του φύσης και του αριθμού προκλήσεων που εμπεριέχει το εγχείρημα (χρηματοδότηση, εκτόξευση κτλ.). Η ανάληψη αυτού του ρίσκου είναι μέρος του project
Το project θα χρηματοδοτηθεί μέσω crowfunding και συνεταιρικότητας. Το τέχνικο κομμάτι θα αναπτυχθεί σε συνεργασία με το Hackerspace του Αγίου Ελευθευρίου (Άνω Πατήσσια). Όλοι οι φοιτητές του Circuits and Currents και οποιοσδήποτε θέλει, μπορεί να συμμετέχει στο project

The workshop is open to students of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Τhe aim of the workshop is to send a satellite in space. To do so, we need to develop an installation functionning in weightlessness, fund it, test it and then send it in orbit around the Earth.
Satellite’s projects became very popular those past 5 years due to available kits at cheap prices. Most of projects that has been developed until now had an «utilitarian» purpose, with the exception of a few; the ashes of the cold war and the “new” colonial spirit still considering space as the «new frontier».

The roots of this workshop are in the works and writings of Malevitch and Klebnikhov, René Daumal and Yves Klein, Pataphysics, and closer to us, of Meillassoux and he AAA (Astronauts Autonomous Association), who at the end of the 90 were reclaiming spatial exploration for all and the organisation of the flee in space as the most relevant mode of action to redefine life in all its aspects (in space and on Earth). They were against the idea to reproduce in outer space the ways of living and organisational patterns that we know on Earth. Hence the need for this project to have no utilitarian purpose, not even to deliver free connections (!).
We will have to experiment and work with this zero-g state, this dimension where everything has to be (re-)invented, and in which new conditions should be established. My proposal for this workshop is to make a «blind» project, like the body of an insect. Meaning that most on the onboard electronic will face the inwards to collect the data of the installation and not the surrounding space. The only devices that will face outwards will be the one that will allow us to communicate with the satellite and to transmit the data about what is happening inside during the lifetime of the satellite. As such it is a modest prefiguration of the hollow planets that will drift one days outer space, sheltering human communities.
Lifetime of a DIY satellite is variable, it is on average of 6 weeks-3 months, their orbit slowly decaying and they then disintegrate in the mesosphere (therefore no space pollution). The project could fail due to its experimental nature, the number of challenges of the venture ( funding, launching, …), this risk taking being an integral part of the project.
The project will be funded through crowdfunding and partnership, the technical part will be developed in collaboration with the Hackerspace.gr [HSGR] of Agios Eleutherios in Athens.
All students of the Athens School of Fine Arts and anyone wishing to participate to the project are welcome. It is already possible to say that its development won’t be linear, let’s wish that it will be elliptic!
