To Reclaiming the Past, Regaining the Real festival επικεντρώνεται στην παρουσίαση της Contemporary Music & Contemporary Art στο κοινό. Περιλαμβάνει τα πεδία της “Classical” & Contemporary Music, Electroacoustic Music, Contemporary Art, New Media Art & Multimedia Art. Το φεστιβάλ επιχειρεί να παρουσιάσει τις νέες τάσεις στους παραπάνω τομείς, παρέχει επιμόρφωση σε νέους καλλιτέχνες μέσω σεμιναρίων και εργαστηρίων καθώς επίσης ερευνά το σημείο συνάντησης της μουσικής τέχνης με τις εικαστικές τέχνες, τις επιστήμες και τη θεωρία. Το κεντρικό σημείο συνάντησης του φεστιβάλ είναι στην Αθήνα κάθε Σεπτέμβριο & Οκτώβριο κάθε έτους. Συναυλίες, έργα & projects που περιλαμβάνονται στο φεστιβάλ θα μεταφέρονται επίσης και σε άλλους χώρους στο Βερολίνο, στο Ίνσμπρουκ, την υπόλοιπη Ελλάδα και σε συνεργαζόμενους φορείς στην Αθήνα.

Οι στόχοι του φεστιβάλ:

• The presentation of a wide range of contemporary music’s tendencies and directions within a framework of historical continuity of what is labeled as “classical music” and of visual arts.
• Παρουσίαση μεγάλου εύρους των κατευθύνσεων/τάσεων της σύγχρονης μουσικής ως ιστορική συνέχεια της λεγόμενης “κλασσικής μουσικής” καθώς και των σύγχρονων εξελίξεων στις εικαστικές τέχνες.
• Η επικοινωνία των δύο τεχνών (εικαστικών και μουσικής) αυτοτελώς ή ως συνδυαστικά μέσα.
• Η παραγωγή νέων μουσικών και εικαστικών έργων μέσω των workshops και των residencies.
• Διοργάνωση και παρουσίαση έργων που παρήχθησαν από το φεστιβάλ, σε χώρους εγνωσμένου κύρους στην Ελλάδα, Ευρώπη, ΗΠΑ.
• Επιμόρφωση νέων καλλιτεχνών

Statement:

Έχουν περάσει παραπάνω από 20 χρόνια από τότε που ένα τουλάχιστον μέρος ενός πνευματικού κατεστημένου, μεταμφιεσμένου σε ριζοσπαστική πρωτοπορία, μας ανακοίνωσε με τυμπανοκρουσίες του τέλους της Ιστορίας, την οριστική επικράτηση του ενός συστήματος, την άρση των αντιθέσεων, την κατάργηση εν τέλει της Διαλεκτικής, την επίτευξη με άλλα λόγια του Μέλλοντος. Η Συγχρονικότητα του Μετα-Μοντέρνου, ο αυτοαναφορικός Χωρόχρονος, η κυριαρχία της υποκειμενικότητας της Αφήγησης, σε συνδυασμό με μία αισιοδοξία, μία ευφορία μίας οικονομίας σε ανάπτυξη και τις πολλαπλές όψεις της Παγκοσμιοποίησης με προεξάρχουσα την Πολυ-Πολιτισμικότητα προβλήθηκαν σαν κάτι που δεν υπήρξε ποτέ: το Τέλος του Νέου ή έστω το τέλος της αναζήτησης του.

100 χρόνια ωστόσο από τις ιστορικές πρωτοπορίες του 20ου αιώνα και σχεδόν 200 από την πρώτη χρήση του όρου Avant Garde με την σύγχρονη έννοια, η Ιστορία, η διαδοχή γεγονότων μικρών και μεγάλων, σημαντικών και ασήμαντων, με αιτιατή σύνδεση μεταξύ τους ή και τυχαίων είναι παρούσα και διεκδικεί εκ νέου με ένταση τα δικαιώματα της. Το Μέλλον δεν σταμάτησε ποτέ να επέρχεται, το Παρελθόν να ζητά την αποτίμηση του, το Παρόν να απαιτεί την στιγμιαία, σημειακή μοναδικότητα του. Στην Κοινωνία και την Τέχνη, η Πραγματικότητα αναμένει την ανάκτησή της και το Παρελθόν, το γεγονός δηλαδή, χρειάζεται να ξαναγίνει κτήμα μας. Οι Έννοιες όπως και ο Χρόνος μένει να ξανακερδηθούν.

Έχει σημάνει επομένως η πρόσκληση και η πρόκληση να διερευνήσουμε ξανά τα υλικά και τις τεχνικές, το περιεχόμενο, την έκφραση και ιδίως τις δομές, να συνδεθούμε εκ νέου με ένα παρελθόν που μας ζητήθηκε είτε να καταδικάσουμε συλλήβδην είτε να διαγράψουμε από την μνήμη μας, να κατοικήσουμε ξανά σε μία καθημερινότητα όπου οι ιδέες και τα πράγματα συνυπάρχουν σε μία δυναμική ισορροπία και όπου η Ουτοπία ξαναγίνεται αυτό που πάντα ήτανε: εργαλείο και πρόγραμμα δράσης, τάση και όχι υποχρέωση.

Και πάλι θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε τις δύο συμπληρωματικές και αντίθετες προσεγγίσεις, τα δύο θεμελιώδη όργανα παρατήρησης, το τηλεσκόπιο που μέσω της μελέτης του χώρου μας αποκαλύπτει τα βαθιά μυστικά του χρόνου, την διερεύνηση του πολύ μεγάλου τους θεμελιώδεις νόμους του στοιχειώδους και το μικροσκόπιο, που μέσω της ανατομίας του πολύ μικρού, του προσωρινού, του τώρα μας προϊδεάζει για την ουσία της διάρκειας,

Καλούμε λοιπόν, καλλιτέχνες και ομάδες, να συμμετάσχουν στην προσπάθειάς μας χαρτογράφησης μίας νέας πραγματικότητας, με την συλλογή στοιχείων και παρατηρήσεων, την πρόταση πρωτότυπων ή και ήδη δοκιμασμένων προσεγγίσεων, όπου με την βάσανο της πειραματικής μεθόδου, της πράξης με άλλα λόγια, οι ιδέες και οι πρακτικές αναμετρούνται, και το νέο διαρκώς αναγεννάται.

Πρέπει ωστόσο να πούμε πως παρόλα αυτά υπάρχει και η υποψία/άποψη πως το πραγματικό δεν είναι παρά μία ψευδαίσθηση, μία επινόηση, μία κατασκευή, μία Χίμαιρα ή ακόμα και μία απάτη, πως η Πραγματικότητα στην πραγματικότητα δεν υπάρχει.

Το εκπαιδευτικό μέρος του προγράμματος στοχεύει αφενός στην επιμόρφωση των νέων καλλιτεχνών και αφετέρου στην παραγωγή νέων έργων / projects. Τα έργα που θα προκύψουν από τα εργαστήρια και τα σεμινάρια του φεστιβάλ θα παρουσιαστούν σε χώρους εγνωσμένου κύρους στην Ελλάδα, Ευρώπη, ΗΠΑ.

The Reclaiming the Past, Regaining the Real festival focuses on presenting Contemporary Music & Contemporary Art to the public. It embraces the fields of “Classical” & Contemporary Music, Electroacoustic Music, Contemporary Art, New Media, Multimedia. The festival attempts to present the new trends and tendencies of the disciplines mentioned above, it provides educational opportunities for young artists through seminars and workshops and it explores the point where musical art, visual art, sciences and theory come together. The core location of the festival is Athens and it runs annually every September and October. Concerts, works & projects originating from the festival will later be presented at other venues in Berlin, Innsbrug and Athens.

The goals of the Festival:

• The presentation of a wide range of contemporary music’s tendencies and directions within a framework of historical continuity of what is labeled as “classical music” and of visual arts.
• The communication of the two arts (visual and musical) either as autonomous or as combinatory mediums.
• The production of new musical and visual works through the workshops and residencies.
• The organization and presentation of works produced during the festival at prestigious venues in Greece, Europe and USA.
• The education of young artists.

Statement:

It has been more than 20 years since at least one division of the spiritual establishment, disguised as radical pioneers, announced the end of history with great fanfare. It declared the definitive prevalence of one system, the elimination of conflicts and ultimately the abolition of Dialectics, in other words the achievement of the Future. The Synchronicity of the Post-Modern, the self-referential Space-Time, the domination of narrative’s subjectivity coupled with an optimism and the euphoria of a booming economy teamed with the multiple aspects of Globalization, with Multiculturalism being the most prominent one, were raised as something that never existed: the End of the New or, at best, the end of its pursuit.

However, 100 years since the innovations of the 20th century and almost 200 since the initial use of the term Avant Garde in its contemporary sense, History - as sequence of major and minor events, significant and trivial ones, bearing a causal connection to one another or a random one – is present and it contests anew and passionately its rightful entitlements. The Future has never stopped coming, nor has the Past stopped asking for its assessment. Likewise, the Present does not quit from demanding its instantaneous point of uniqueness. In Society and in Art, the Reality anticipates its recovery and the Past, the fact that is, needs to become our own once again. The Concepts as well as the Time are left to be reclaimed.

Therefore, the time for the invitation and the challenge of investigating once more the materials and the techniques, the content, the expression and particularly the structures, has come. We are called to connect anew to a past which we are required to either collectively condemn or delete from our memory, to inhabit the everyday once more, where the ideas and the objects coexist in a dynamic equilibrium and where Utopia becomes again what it has always been: a tool and a course of action, an obligation - not an tendency.

We will, yet again, use the two complementary and contradictory approaches, the two fundamental observation instruments, the telescope which reveals the deep secrets of time, the investigation of the grand, the fundamental laws of the elementary by examining our space, and the microscope which now predisposes us to the essence of duration via the anatomy of the minute and the temporary.

We are therefore inviting artists and groups to participate in our attempt to map a new reality, through the collection of data and observations, the proposal of original or already tested approaches, where bearing the torment of experimental methodology, of action in other words, the ideas and the practices are antagonizing, and the novel is constantly regenerated.

Still, we must mention that despite everything, there is a suspicion/belief that the real is little more than an illusion, an invention, a construction, a Chimera, or even a deception, that Reality doesn’t really exist.
