Olav Westphalen, artist and professor at the Royal Institute of the Arts in Stockholm, will discuss the predicaments and contradictions of working in the tradition of the avant-garde, following the recent episodes in the history of the art and drawing from his own experience as a practitioner.

The talk is organised in the context of the ERASMUS teaching exchange programme.

Το τριήμερο workshop απευθύνεται κατά κύριο λόγο σε μεταπτυχιακούς/ διδακτορικούς φοιτητές, αλλά και σε όλα τα μέλη της ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας της ΑΣΚΤ που ενδιαφέρονται να διερευνήσουν την έννοια της «κατασκευής καταστάσεων» σε πρακτικό και θεωρητικό επίπεδο σε σχέση με το προσωπικό τους ερευνητικό πεδίο.

Στόχος του workshop είναι να δημιουργηθεί μέσω της πρακτικής ενασχόλησης με την «κατασκευή καταστάσεων», μια συνθήκη πειραματισμού και θεωρητικού προβληματισμού γύρω από ζητήματα όπως η σχέση θεωρίας και πράξης, η σημασία, οι πολιτικές προεκτάσεις και τα όρια της καλλιτεχνικής δράσης. Την εν λόγω συνθήκη θα κληθούν να δημιουργήσουν οι ίδιοι οι συμμετέχοντες, μέσα από μια διαδικασία που θα βασίζεται στις μεθόδους της ίδιας τους της καλλιτεχνικής έρευνας.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της πρώτης ημέρας του workshop, αφού τα μέλη της ομάδας παρουσιάσουν την προσωπική τους καλλιτεχνική έρευνα και εργασία, η συζήτηση θα επικεντρωθεί στις θεωρητικές καταβολές της έννοιας της «κατασκευής καταστάσεων» όπως αυτή ορίστηκε από την Καταστασιακή Διεθνή, με σκοπό να διαφανούν οι πιθανές κατευθύνσεις πειραματισμού και έρευνας της ομάδας σε ατομικό ή συλλογικό επίπεδο.

Τη δεύτερη ημέρα, κάθε μέλος της ομάδας θα παρουσιάσει:
1. μια μέθοδο και ένα σχέδιο πειραματικής δράσης, το οποίο και θα πραγματοποιήσει (έστω εν μέρει) την ίδια μέρα,
2. τα θεωρητική ζητήματα που σκοπεύει να διερευνήσει μέσα από αυτή τη δράση,
3. τις μεθόδους τεκμηρίωσής της.

Η τρίτη ημέρα θα είναι αφιερωμένη στη συζήτηση σχετικά με:
1. τις μεθόδους και τη δράση (ή τις δράσεις) των μελών της ομάδας,
2. τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η δράση αυτή λειτουργεί στον δημόσιο χώρο αλλά και στο θεωρητικό συγκείμενο (contexte),
3. τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η συγκεκριμένη δράση συμβάλει και εξελίσσει την έρευνα γύρω από την έννοια της «κατασκευής καταστάσεων».

Το workshop θα λειτουργήσει με βάση θεωρητικό πλαίσιο που θα θέσει η διάλεξη της 24ης Σεπτεμβρίου της οποίας η παρακολούθηση είναι υποχρεωτική για όλους τους συμμετέχοντες.
 

Το workshop πραγματοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος ERASMUS ανταλλαγής διδασκόντων μεταξύ της ΑΣΚΤ και της Ανωτάτης Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Γαλλίας ESBA TALM (Angers).

On the Construction of Situations: a research approach

The workshop is open to students and the academic community of the Athens School of Fine Arts. Prerequisite: Attendance of the lecture on 24.09.15
 

This three day workshop is mainly addressed to postgraduate students and phd candidates that are interested in investigating the situationist concept of constructed situations at both a practical and theoretical level, as well as in relation to their own research fields.

The aim of this workshop is to create conditions of experimentation and theoretical concern around issues such as the relationship between theory and practice, as well as the meaning, the political effectiveness and the limits of artistic action.      
                                     
The students are invited to create these so-called conditions through a process invented by themselves and based on their own methods of artistic research.

During the first day of the workshop, once the members of the group will have presented their personal artistic research and work, the discussion will focus on the theoretical roots of the concept of the construction of situations, as defined by the Situationist International, and in relation to what will be presented during the lecture (on 24.9.15), with the aim to show the possible directions of experimenting and researching of the team at both the individual and the collective level.

During the second day of the workshop, each member of the group will present:
1. a method and a plan of experimental action, that he/she will realise (even partly) the same day,
2. the theoretical questions that he/she intends to research through this action,
3. the methods of it’s documentation.        
                                             
The third day will be devoted to
1. the discussion of the methods and the actions of the participants,
2. the ways in which they interacted within the public sphere and the theoretical context,

3. the way these actions may contribute to the research on the political and artistic potential of the concept of constructed situations today.                                                                                                                              

The workshop is organised in the context of the ERASMUS teaching exchange programme between  ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts) and TALM (School of fine arts of Tours – Angers - Le Mans) in France.
