The 15th edition of the annual backup_festival in Weimar is currently
looking for innovative and creative short films directed by students or
Alumni from art, media and design schools.
The backup_festival 2013 focuses on the following competitions: the
backup.award, the backup.clip.award and the backup.herzblut.award. The extended
deadline for entries in all categories is February 08th, 2013.
backup.award
The backup.award is looking for short films characterized by their
creative examination of the different ways of expression and various
production techniques that reflect and define the boundaries and
possibilities of a film. The interaction of varying forms of media and
methods as well as their influence on narration, production and
distribution chains is considered to be at the heart of this
competition. As a result, present categorizations have to be left
behind and hybrid forms have to be created.
The submitted entries should not have been completed before January
1st, 2011 and should not exceed a runtime of 15 minutes.
backup.clip.award
The backup.clip.award is looking for music video clips which create an
unusual symbiosis between film and music by using miscellaneous media
related production techniques. It is the capacity to unite the
characteristics of music video clips with its artistic possibilities
and limits that will be awarded. Consequently images are made audible
and sounds become visible.
The submitted entries should not have been completed before January
1st, 2011 and should not exceed a runtime of 7 minutes. In order to
compete, all video clips have to be authorized. Patent rights and the
rights of use must have been obtained by the competitor.
backup.herzblut.award
backup.at.home brings selected short films into the cosy ambience of
local student residential communities. The backup.herzblut.award which
is given by the audience is sponsored by PARTISAN Vodka.
The submitted entries should not have been completed before January
1st, 2011 and should not exceed a runtime of 15 minutes.
The call for entries takes place internationally in art schools, art
academies, media and design schools, universities and via internet on
the website www.backup-festival.de.
By addressing those schools and universities, the backup_festival
finds itself in contrast to established film festival competitions
addressed exclusively to film schools.
Entries must be submitted to the festival office before the extended deadline on
February 8th, 2013. A completed entry includes the filled in
application form, a preview copy of the film (preferably on a DVD),
filmstills, a transcript of the dialogues, a synopsis and the
director´s bio- and filmography.
For the competitions backup.award and backup.clip.award an independent
jury consisting in film and TV makers, producers, designers, and also
media theorists will award the most outstanding entries.
